My friend BA lost her cat Mimi the other day. Mimi was more than a pet. She was family. BA called her “my baby girl” sometimes. I’ve met Mimi before she disappeared. She was cute and friendly to me.
I don’t know how to comfort BA properly. But I do want to say a few words just to let her know that I care.
Mimi
Mimi came to me a few months ago
A stray cat, a Mimi Doe
Then she found her home
My home
You called me outside my front door
My ears didn’t pick up feline-lore
But it wasn’t hard
You spoke straight to my heart
I took you in my quarters
You lit up its dark corners
I read books in my bed
You jumped up and warmed my lap
I listened on YouTube to the Bee Gees
You meowed and tried to bomb it in the backyard trees
Mimi came to me a few months ago
A stray cat, a Mimi Doe
Then she found her home
Our home
