A New Year Prayer

I pray
That the world
A: Would be at peace with itself
B: Had suffered enough hunger, and would be spared of that epidemic from now on

What with
Wars that are dog-eat-dog, and
Politics dumb-versus-damned
It’s not going to be so bonny
Thus I am torn

Yet you and I
We can think small
We can start the call
To neighbors let’s exchange hello
To strangers let’s say hi
To the homeless let’s share a meat pie
Not just today, not just 2018, but
To the end of time

I pray
That the world
A: Would be at peace with itself
B: Had suffered enough hunger, and would be spared of that epidemic from now on

What with
Wars that are dog-eat-dog, and
Politics dumb-versus-damned
It’s not going to be so bonny
Thus I am torn

Yet you and I
We can start small
We can plan tall
In dribs and drabs
Step by small step
A shed of hope is born
Ivy of love grows upon
In dribs and drabs
Step by small step
A shed of hope is born
Ivy of love grows on and on….

I pray
