A few weeks ago I wrote a piece called Charlie and His Inheritance which described the uneven distribution of family assets between male and female children. A few readers wrote back and expressed frustration and resignation about this common inequity. All those who wrote on this issue were women. Not a single man said anything about the right or wrong of gender discrimination. One male reader did comment on my suggestion of donating 1/10 of 1% to charity. He questioned why I didn’t recommend more, such as 10%. I told him I would be very happy with my original formula, but I would be a hundred times as happy if people started to give away 10 % of the money they had no use for anymore.
Ladies, I share your discomfort and feeling of betrayal. Here’s a poem in your praise.
