Creek in the Woods

I was having lunch with two friends the other day. MY made the compliment that she found me to be a cheerful person all the time, even in the personal aftermath of a heart attack. She used the word “sunshine” to describe her impression of me when she first met me many years ago. Either to tease me, or to say the truth, EC said that many happy people might not be what they seemed to be. I played along and said something to the effect that deep inside I was really the melancholic type. And they both laughed.

Many hours later I reflected upon that conversation and I thought EC’s observation might not be that far off as I did have moments during which I wasn’t totally up and elevated.

The next day, when the winter sun was out, I took a walk along a creek in my neighborhood. I don’t know the name of it although it may have one. No matter. We’ve always enjoyed each other’s company on a quiet day.
