Reader response to the question “Is the so-called president a psychopath?”

Reader EL was kind enough to take time and wrote me. He said,

“I did not vote for Trump and I also disagree with some of his policies. But now that he is the elected president, we should all give him a chance. Constantly mocking and protesting is not the solution. Unless he breaks the law, he represents the highest elected office in the US, and the office he represent shall be treated with respect. One thing I have to give him is that he did what he promised during the campaign even though the policy may be misguided. I can’t say that for many politicians once they are elected. He is also a breath of fresh air in a government that had catered to so many special interest groups. He doesn’t give a damn to the special interest groups. He even takes on the powerful EPA and teacher’s Union. He is certainly a very different president that most we have seen in the last 30 years or so.

At the end of the day, we want a safe, strong, and economically viable country. As long as he delivers that, I will vote for him next time.”

As a non-native American, I love this adopted country because of many reasons, one of which is this kind of healthy dialogue between my friend EL and me.

Would you like to join us?

As an aside, another friend, who shall remain nameless because she’s afraid for me and I presume vicariouslypresident fearful for herself because of the association with my untactful opinions, warned me against speaking against a powerful person like the president of the United States. My response was that, one, I was not afraid, and two, I didn’t think this country was that bad as to suppress non-violent speeches yet. What I am afraid of, though, is that if we let the bully in the big white house continue his unruly behaviors, this country may indeed become a fearful place to live someday. A century and a half ago, Abraham Lincoln saved this country from being black and white. What was saved can be broken again. It’s up to us, the current generation, and future generations to preserve it, to continue saving it.🙏
