Meandering Hearts: San Francisco Style (Part V)

Akwong thought the food at the Pirates was quite good, and he complimented Fanny for picking such a nice place. She said thank-you and said it was his turn to pick a place for the next lunch.

“I am given a second meal after the last supper?” Akwong said.
“I am your tour guide, remember?”
“Would tomorrow be too quick?” Akwong tested.
“You don’t waste much time, do you?”
“I am only going to be here for a month. I have to make good use of it. If you can’t do it tomorrow, will day after be okay?”
“Tomorrow is fine. And I promised Su I’d keep an eye on you.”
“I see. I come to your house tomorrow at the same time then? Let’s go to Japan Town and decide on a Sushi restaurant after we get there. It’s a Thursday; it shouldn’t be too crowded.”
“That sounds good.”

Meandering Hearts_GFanny and Akwong had such a good time in Japan Town that they decided to have lunch again in China Town on Friday. When Akwong asked her to go to dinner with him that weekend she declined.

“I promised Jessie to drive her to an SAT class on both afternoons and she has friends coming over to do homework and play afterward. I can do lunch every day from Monday to Friday. I can’t do dinner on weekdays because I want to have it with Jessie and Willy. But we can have dinner on weekends if you give me some advance notice. I just have to make sure that Jessie doesn’t need me driving to tennis tournaments or friends’ houses. Can we do it next Saturday evening?”

The next Monday, they were driving around in Marin County looking back at San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge.

“Is the Baker Beach near the Golden Gate Bridge still a nude beach?” Akwong asked.
“I wouldn’t know. I never knew there was a nude beach in the freezer called San Francisco.” Fanny replied.
“Are you brave? You want to take a walk there tomorrow and find out?”
“No, I am not that brave. I get self-conscious walking around in a bathing suit, let alone in a birthday suit.”
“No, no, no. We’ll walk around fully clothed.”
“I’ve lived here all my life and I didn’t know about the Baker Beach. How come you know so much about these things coming from Hong Kong?”
“Men pay attention to important things like that.”
“I’ll say.”
“Are you game?”
“I have to tell Su about you, but sure.”

Fanny was a little hesitant the next day, but she was curious too. So they parked the car in the Presidio and walked toward the general direction of Baker Beach although they did not know exactly where it was or what they would find.

They were not disappointed. There were a dozen or so nude men bathing in the 65-degree fog on the beach.

“I haven’t seen a man’s body for so long and then I saw them all in one day,” Fanny quietly joked.
“You mean you and Willy haven’t … never mind,” Akwong said teasingly.
“That’s okay. I thought Su told you. Willy and I sleep in different rooms. We are still together because of Jessie.”
“I see. You both want Jessie to have a father and mother in the house.”
“That’s basically it. Willy and I both know that we are still together because of the children, especially Jessie, and that’s a good thing. We know that sooner or later one of us is going to move out of the house when Jessie goes to college. By then she would be more mature and able to deal with the fact that her parents are separated. ”
