古典长篇小说《西游记》是中国四大名著之一。它主要描写三个徒弟：孙悟空、猪八戒和沙僧护送师父圣僧唐三藏（唐僧或玄奘）西行天竺（今印度）求（佛）法和取（佛）经的艰辛过程。 “The Journey to the West” is considered by most scholars as one of the four masterpieces of classical Chinese literature. The story follows the legendary pilgrimage of a monk, Tang Sanzang (Tang Monk or Xuancang) along with his three disciples, Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie and Sha Seng, across a perilous journey to the west to reach Tianzhu (now India).

师徒四人一路抢滩涉险，降妖伏怪，并历经多重苦难，终于取得真经，修成正果。 During their adventures, the group gallantly overcame many tribulations and ordeals from battling treacherous terrain to encountering various monsters and fiends, some challenges were purposefully setup by the Deities as a test of their resolve to attain the Buddhist scriptures (sutras). In the end, the monk and his disciples reached their destination and acquired the true scriptures from the Buddhist Patriarch.

自小说问世以来，各种各样的版本层出不穷，在国内外的研究价值都非常之高。19世纪30年代以后，《西游记》渐渐传入欧美，被译为英、法、德、意、西、世界语、斯瓦希里语、俄、捷、罗、波、日、朝、越、手语等文种。中外学者发表了不少研究论文和专著，对该著作作出了极高的评价。 Since the novel’s publication countless interpretations have emerged. Studies of the literature have received great interest from China and international audiences. Since the 1930s, “The Journey to the West” has been introduced into Europe and the United States. The novel has since been translated into English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Esperanto, Swahili, Russian, Czech, Romanian, Polish, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese and others including sign language. Chinese and foreign scholars have published many research papers, providing positive critique and valuable topics for discussion.
