「壽」:即長命、長壽;
「富」:指富有、富貴;
「康寧」:即無病無痛、身體健康;
「攸好德」:指喜愛好品德、高興而積極行好、善事。 “攸”字又作“修”字,即修養美好的德行;

  3. Thanks for explaining the five blessings so clearly.
    Most people may not realize that the fifth blessing is a good death. I was somewhat taken aback when my godmother told me this some fifty years ago. Now, in my seventies, this fifth blessing is what I hope and pray for. To pass away without illness or suffering is the best kind of good death.
    Years ago, a notice on the bulletin board of a convent impressed me deeply. It read, “Sister X was born to eternal life on such a date.” It manifested what Catholics believe. In the liturgy of requiem mass, we find the following statement, ‘Life is not ended, but transformed’. That is how I look upon death.
    Meanwhile, before this second ‘birth’ , I need to live life to the full. Jesus said, “I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly.”(John 10:10) One day when I meet God face to face, He might ask me, ” I gave you life, did you enjoy it? Did you appreciate my unconditional love for you? Did you realize I was carrying you during the difficult legs of your journey on earth?” Hopefully I can answer yes to all these. Imagine the joy of listening to His words, “Welcome home, my beloved daughter!”
